reusing brake hose olives
Will I die? Normally I'd buy new ones but I'm trying to get the brakes ready for a track day on Friday so won't have time.
They were quite a pain to get onto the new hose, but ultimately everything went together and looks OK. Not had a chance to test anything yet.

Common sense would surely say change them especially if the first outing is going to be a track day, hopefully you'll be fine but just in case
hope the track in question has nice big run off areas!

It's an airfield so lots of runoff, fortunately. Obviously I'll sit in the car and hold the pedal down hard for a while to test for leaks
- assuming I don't find any then I will conclude that they're OK. Might replace the olives anyway just to be sure but can't before
Friday obviously.

This is precisely the sort of reason why I think those "self assembly" type unions are lethal, TBH I'm staggered they are
considered ok for IVA - swaged unions never have this issue!
I no longer run Furore Products or Furore Cars Ltd, but would still highly recommend them for Acewell dashes, projector headlights, dominator
headlights, indicators, mirrors etc, best prices in the UK! Take a look at http://www.furoreproducts.co.uk/ or find more parts on Ebay, user names
furoreltd & furoreproducts, discounts available for LCB users.
Don't forget Stainless Steel Braided brake hoses, made to your exact requirements in any of around 16 colours.

No!
You wouldn't reuse an olive on a plumbing fitting where the consequences are you get a bit wet. So why would you reuse one on the brakes when
you might die or worse kill someone else?
New brake hoses properly made from Russ arrive the next day.

These things are single use, you tighten them, they compress and grip the hose. To re use them you would either have to re shape them, then re
compress them, which will weaken them, or force them on and over compress them.
Sorry to say this is a bad idea, risking yourself and those sharing the track with you.
As has been said, Russbost is the man for hoses.

From THE manual
09D Hydraulic and Vacuum Systems
"Compression joints of the type using separate ferrules are not considered suitable for joints on hydraulic brake lines"
I removed my diy hoses and replaced them with some excellent swagged fittings, made by someone on here

Actually it says:
"Compression joints of the type using separate ferrules are not considered suitable for joints on hydraulic brake lines other than in the case
of a hose designed for a high pressure application that incorporates an inner sleeve in the compression fitting."
Which sounds like the Goodridge system is OK.

No, they are perfectly legal, at least in Uk, not sure about elsewhere. I believe some hoses did fail IVA as the owners when asked couldn't
confirm that the "support tubes" were inside the hoses beneath the olives, but I think the advice given to testers now is that if
they're not leaking & they have no reason to suspect incorrect fitment (& how would you know that by looking at the outside of the
hose???) then they should pass.
Q to the OP - I trust you are certain that the "support tubes" inside the hose have been swapped over from the old hoses???

Currently I've made up a couple new hoses using all the parts from the old hoses (managed to find two new olives actually but had to reuse two).
So, apart from the olive reuse concern, they are OK.
Going to try and find a motor factors today and if possible redo the hoses with all new olives - if not, then will very thoroughly test while
stationary to see if it looks OK for use tomorrow. Either way I've ordered new olives online so I can remake with all new olives as soon as they
arrive.

Thanks all for your advice, you are quite right. One the hoses appears OK but one has a tiny leak when I mash the pedal down hard. So will be leaving
it in the garage until I've got some new olives.
