Removing brake drum on a ford axle ?
I need to get to the rear brake drum off, to change the shoes and cylinders, (leaking)
the offside is done, and was a bitch, as the drum had quite a lip, but after some real persuasion, was off, and the offending lip was ground out
but I can not get the nearside drum off due to the lip ?
any idea's ?

First thing is to fully slacken back the the handbrake cable if it is an Escort brake the disconnect the cable at the wheel end, if that
doesn’t help enough then try removing the 2 nuts/bolts that hold the wheel cylinder.
If all else fails just keep hammering each side in turn while pulling/levering at the opposite side, you may end up braking the hold down spring
retainers.
I have a couple of brand new 8" drums if you need them.

Get a bigger hammer That's a serious suggestion.
Have you checked the cables are backed off fully at the handbrake lever?
If you have the other side off can you see if it's possible to release the adjuster when the drum is on?
The technique I use for drum removal is:
Pull one side of the drum as if you were trying to pull the drum off while tapping (as hard as you can) the the opposite side of the drum, you are
hitting the drum on the same face and direction as the shoes press not trying to knock it off, keep swapping sides until the drum is off. Not the best
description sorry but I can't think how to descibe the action.

Sometimes helps to disconnect the brake line and clamp it so there is no pressure in the wheel cylinder forcing the shoes out ( apart from the
internal spring in the cylinder).

I agree with Davie. The idea is that you try and knock the side you are pulling away from the shoe and eventually it should 'wiggle' off.
Think of the same idea as getting some lids off tins of paint etc. where you prise one side up thenm the other, it's the same idea
I know what Davie means though, it's simple to do, but a bu**er to explain

Cheers guys,
Ive done ALL the above, and the bastard still will not come off !!
Brake cylinder is disconnected, and holding bolts off, and handbrake cable is on the worktop (ie off!!)
The other side was a pig, but I eventually got the drum over a shoe about 2 mm, and smacked f ****g hell out of it to remove it
Oh well, tomorrow, hope next door's not on nights, as its going to be noisy!

Somewhere there is usually a little hole, either on the front of the drum (If you've fitted the drum so the hole is over a solid bit of the
drive flange, then that's your fault), or, on the back plate (it usually has a rubber grommet in it) through which you insert a thin/small lever
to release the self adjuster mechanism. Most people are lazy and don't do the release option. Oh and it can be used in reverse to set the self
adjuster.

No hole on this set up!! Front face or back, as I have been over the whole setup so many times
next step, is to pull the half shaft and drum through the whole shite brake system

Can you get hold of the shoe hold down pins from the back and try turning them to release them then the shoe should pull off so far with the drum and
give you room to get a couple of screwdrivers in to lever with.
P.S. you've spelt grammar wrong

Right try this. put your hands and forearms around the drum and turn the drum more than pulling, they usually pop off.
