wheel bearing woes

hi,

i run cortina front uprights, for some reason i seem to be having wheel bearing issues.

ive tightened them then been out for a run and come back to the same play nearly in each side.

not had bearings like this before is there somthing im doing wrong or are the bearings past it etc.....

im nipping them tight then backing off untill the spacer behind will move slightly

thanks alastair

How much play are you getting?

Have you fitted new bearing? Are the outer races all the way home?

It's normal/correct to feel a little play at the wheel.

I just tighten them up till the wheel drags then back it off the till it turns freely. You don't need to be OTT with these bearing types a bit of float or rock either side is perfectly normal. So long as they are well greased and quiet leave them alone. Ignore the spacer or washer it has nothing to do with setting them up. It's more important you don't over tighten them as they will heat up and wear out.
