Wilwood twin-pots on rear

Been thinking about this, as it would improve breaking, save weight, and allow 13" wheels to be used. You would have to use escort mk3/4 front discs as the offset on the sierra discs is too small, so the outside cylinder would catch on the wheel, and making up an adaptor plate would be easy for lug mount calipers.

you will still need a mechanical handbrake mechanism as well

It's a race car, so only a line lock.

i sugesst you carefully check the regs for events you want to do as a lot of them specify must have or be capable of passing an mot.

It won't be road legal at all. It will be running in a race car class (hillclimb), with mallocks etc...

I'm happy to be proven wrong but I'm not sure adding twin pot disc brakes on the rear of a locost would improve braking though.

Brake bias is the thing to sort out - front to rear. Effectiveness of brakes at the back end depends what brakes you put on the front, the bias and then the stickiness of the tyres.

You need a lot less force at the brakes to lock the rears up compared to the fronts.
In my limited experience you usually end up having to work hard to restirict braking force at the rear wheels Assuming you are going forwards of course, and then trying to slow down quickly.

I'm no brake design expert (and there are some professional brake design engineers on this list) but in such a light car discs on the rear might be more for show than effect.

.. and twin pots on the back? I'd do some serious calcs to show there was some sort of benefit before I laid out that sort of cash!

The calipers have about the same bore size (44.5 for the wilwoods - 42.1 for the sierra) and at the same time we would upgrade to bigger fronts.

Ned, it would be overbraked with 4-pots on the back, I agree with you there, thats why I'm talking about twin pots.

Oops, I was talking about four pots too!

Four pots, twin pots. Twin pots, four pots. It was too early in the day for me.

Not that it changes anything I said much. You'll still have a challenge I'd guess. Sure you'll solve it though.
