Tin top - Running noise "Chh Chh Chh"
Hi guys,
The problem is there is a noise coming from the (i assume) rear end of my car. The noise is a "chh" sound; imagine a stone in your tire
but with the "tick" sound a "chh" and when I increase my speed it gets faster until eventually I can't hear it (assuming
other road noises take over). I think it's more noticeable when the car is cold rather than when it has been run a while.
Thought I would ask you guys if you know what it is before I jump to the conclusion of a rear wheel bearing needs replacing or something.
P.S the car is a MG ZR 105 Facelift if that helps.
Its done 65000 miles and the service history doesn't show the bearings being changed. Don't know the life expectancy really.
Cheers in advance,
Matt

just jack up the rear of your car, and try pushing/pulling your wheels to see if there is any movement

They are very prone to noise from the rear brakes for the first few hundred yards especially on the first run of the day. A clean out of the rear
drums may help but it isn't a major issue.

If you have 17" "straights" on the car the wheel is very close to the shock. Check that the spring is seated correctly. Doubt
it's related, but the heat shields are cr*p and can rattle like hell. Also check the exhaust mounts as a broken rubber can make the pipe rub
against the rear suspension arm.

don't rule out a cracked exhaust manifold, I once spent hours looking for a brake issue on the wifes MGF to only eventually discover is was a
small crack in the manifold !

Hahahaha!!!! hopefully will not get to that stage or I wont be able to work for my pennies!!
Can't be the exhaust manifold as while I was rolling down the road I switched the engine off and still had the same noise (obviously turned the
engine back on pretty quick ) Also didn't get a chance to check tonight, don't know where my jack is :S
