weights of various common 13" wheela

I have done a search and not found much so thought I would ask for everybody to pool their info into one for eveybodies future reference. I may be treating myself to some 13" and slicks if my winter spruce up budget allows. Is there a big difference in weights are particular ones to avoid?

So, there are a few common 13" x7 wheels out there but what are the preferred ones? I cant find much feedback regarding alloy softness so weight is really the only factor. Please list below common 13" wheels, steel or alloy, and their weights. ET and PCD not important as people are different but common ford are ideal.

I try and add as many important 'key words' to my project thread as possible for the use of people using the search function, I'm suprised you didn't find much, unless the search function doesn't work particularly well?

dont think you'd notice a kilo or 2 difference. i have a set of 6" x 13" and 8"x 13" black radical allycats with 160-535 fronts 170-570 rear slicks plus a spare set of 4 slicks going cheap. just sold my gold/silver ones but have a black set left. going cheap

I presume you mean an overall weight difference of 1 or 2 kgs? as 1 or 2kg per wheel is a huuuuuuge amount

i meant 1kg per corner. its not a big deal at all! my radical doesnt suffer from being on the alleycats. if it was such an issue then my car would run 6" wide rears instead of the 10" ones it sits on now! stick some 8" rears and decent slicks and youll be fine.
my evo could out corner most things on giant wheels.

Unsprung weight counts as double though well I think it does anyway so wheels, hubs, uprights, discs need to be light.

I've recently swapped from 15s which were 16kg per wheel & tyre, down to 13s which are now 10kg fronts, and 11.6kg rears...

Not driven it yet - but rather excited about the prospect of losing all that unsprung weight

Cheers for the offer. Ill contact you if I do get the monies. I did search but none of the titles looked sensible. Still, this one is colating some good info.

My thread has the words 'caterham' 'wheel' 'weights' 'team dynamics' 'pro race' you search any of them, and the thread doesn't appear in the search function, so that was a waste of time lol

It should set off better as you will have geared it down, less top end though ?

205/60/13 and 195/50/15 have almost identical rolling radius
i understand it counts double but youd have to be an excellent driver to notice 1kg per corner. especially when the wider wheels have a wider tyre with wider contact patch, and generally more grip.especially front end bite!
if i were doing a 7 id use 6" front 8"rear with decent rubber. like caterham do!
alternatively you could go on a strict diet and improve power to weight!
in all seriousness. if you were a good enough driver to be able to tell the difference between adding a kilo per corner, but having more grip due to a wider tyre. youd be driving at a very high level in motorsport,
im running 7" fronts 10" rears on 190-535 and 230-570 f/r if that helps. i could put you in touch with an aerodynamicyst from the radical forum if you like and he will put you in the clear (as he ha with me).

With wheel weight I was under the impression that its the additional inertia that sucks acceleration and deceleration speeds that is the main concern. Not total car weight.

Happy to be educated about this.

thats true and any extra weight will have an impact but like a said, youd struggle to notice a tenth or 2 tenths of a second on a 0-60 dash. obviously it depends on the car but bigfoot on here has a very very quick striker and he runs a wide rear setup.maybe contact him and ask his setup? indybird (sean) also ran a wide rear.these 2 guys do lots of track work. cheers
