Sierra cosworth half shaft extension needed.
Hi guys, ongoing is my locost v8 project using cosworth 2wd running gear- many thanks for all your helpfull replies to my last post on the front
wishbones - sorted with the correct items. Now...
Am converting the rear of the chassis to take the independent suspension setup - and have placed the frame with rackets to take the wishbones etc.
really happy with the wide track width and setup but my half shafts seem to be 45mm to short.
Now I could bring the frame and brackets closer to the centre but the extra width is attractive to me. So am thinking of solutions.
Is there available on the market a spacer for the sierra diff to attach to the diff flange to widen the track? I could make one if not available. My
other idea is to simply cut and extend the half shafts - cutting them and sliding over a pipe (ht steel) with the ID the same as the external diameter
of the half shafts. What would you do guys?? Also what is the official width (ed) of the half shafts so I could look out for pipe.
Will post a pic - many thanks
Dave

I would think the only way is to cut the shafts and extend them OR buy special made ones

Yes think that is the best way, but searching for 30mm inside diameter pipe and can't find any! Would be easier then making something on my
mates lathe!

are your current half shafts a matched pair?
cant see how you could be nearly 50mm too short as a 4" wider rear track may cause issues. i think the shafts are different sizes.

Shafts are a matched pair from a cossie 2wd. I have simply inadvertently moved the bracket cage 45mm further from the chassis centre. Many people fit
30-50mm spacers on many cars (I have them on my road car) so I don't think it will directly cause a problem IMHO
