driveshaft welding
I know how its done but does anyone have any ball park price figures for welding inner lobro type shaft (LSD) to outer tripode (drum) type shaft?
and does anyone know if they are the same thickness?

I got a quote of ££60 PER SIDE from the friction welders in gateshead. Way to do it but dosh aplenty. Welded it up myself in the end - time will tell
if it's a good enough job.......

£60 per side  i notice your in cheshire, surely gateshead wasnt the closest one you could find?
Im trying to weigh up the costs involved in swapping to disks, to do this i will need disks, callipers, new uprights, and shafts
to run the drum setup i will need to buy new drums, secondhand back plates, disk shafts(to fit LSD), have the shafts welded
Anyone care to comment

I would imagine buying disc set up would be cheaper in that case

Full 4x4 rear ends are available from £50 if you look hard enough!

We got a whole Ghia 4x4 for £10 off eBay
Wasn't there discussion before about fitting tripode shafts from a drum braked car into a 7in LSD? Was this found to be not possible?

Mackie,
There was a discussion about the LSD tripode compatabilty and it was indeed deemed to be a no go in terms of fitting tripode ends into a non tripode
LSD.
If i run drums i need to have Lobro inner joints and tripode outers welded together. If i go disks i need to get a complete set of lobros, AND disks,
callipers, new uprights etc..

Hi
There was a discusion on another list about joining different driveshafts together, and they said it was a very bad idea. Something about the
harmonics of the different joints affecting each other and could result in a joint failure
To be honest I didn't read it all as I'm using a live axle, but it seemed to make sense

£60 - B1oody hell!!!!!
You can get one piece splined and heat treated shafts to suit sierra joints custom made from a very good steel grade made to length for £70 per side.
I have used these on my 'grasser (see photo archive) for 2 years now with a locked diff and 200hp with absolutely no problem.
the company that you need is GB Engineering in Nantwich, Cheshire.
