M16 to Mondeo brakes?
My front brakes on the plastic car, don't. The master cylinder is a brand new non-servo type off a Fiesta I think. If I mess about with the
pedal ratio by moving the clevis up and down the (floor mounted) pedal, I can get a good pedal but with too much travel, or a rock-hard pedal that
needs both feet to slow the car down. The current set-up is standard M16 calipers on standard mk2 Escort solid discs.
I have gathered-up a pair of calipers and discs from a Mondeo. The discs are 260mm vented so will fit behind my 13" wheels and the calipers are
the 60mm single pot sliding jobbies.
The question is, is it worth the effort making the Mondeo stuff fit? I have already machined the hubs to fit inside the discs so it's just a
case of crafting the mountings for the calipers.
Or should I swap the M/C and overhaul the M16?

ETA: the rear brakes are little discs off a Diahatsu. They seem to be working OK without locking-up.

Mondeo callipers will have more bite but it might be worth checking over the existing callipers to see if the pistons are moving freely, stuck pistons
or pads are common on this type of pad and give a long pedal with lousy bite. If the pads are worn unequally or shows signs not tapered wear then it
is a pointer to a stuck piston.

The pistons move OK in the M16 calipers and the pad wear is even but the pistons are pitted and the dust seals are long gone. The Mondeo bits I have
are all near enough new with a bit of surface rust from storage so I'll make some mountings and see what occurs.

I've got M16's with the Fiesta non servo m/c on my car. Although this setup gave acceptable front brakes I didn't get any real
'bite' in the brakes until I upgraded to Mintex1144 pads (from Greenstuff)
The difference was really noticable, almost like adding a servo to the system. The 1144's aren't cheap (around £50 for M16 calipers) and
can be a bit prone to squealing, but well worth it I reckon.
