Time for Car number 2

Having co-built one car and driven it for a season, I now feel confident enough to build another using a Dolomite 1850 as a Donor, I think Cateringvans and Locusts used to use these donors so have looked up some variants on those web pages (sorry). They mention no problems as such with using the Dolly as a donor, so I thought I would ask on here if any one can foresee any Problems I am going to have.
I like the idea of using something different, but still tuneable.
Any thoughts or ideas gratefully received..

The original Robin Hood S7 used Dolomite running gear. Had one myself, the one with the horrible design to the front of the frame to accept standard triumph wishbones.
You would be able to use lots of the donr with a dolly.
Could be a really really inexpensive build.

i always fancied a stag engine with sprint 16v heads, only problem is i don't have a stag and they never made a reverse head for the other bank of the v8

Out of interest how much power do these put out?

As far as building with one goes maybe you need to check these things:

Will the gearbox fit the Locost tunnel
How tall is the engine
Will the carbs/manifold interfere with the 'Y' tubes
Alternator gonna fit

HTH,

James

The 1850 puts out about 105/107bhp about 20 less than a sprint.

Engine canted well over so wouldn't have thought there be a space problem, only thing to watch is triumphs daft idea of putting the head bolts at a silly angle so they need retorquing every 5000 miles or so( shouldn't be to much of a chore in a locost).

The other thing is that the block was the basis for the first Saab turbo engine, just an idea.

Lew, Rimmer bros do a manifold for £59, or try Anglian Triumph services in Ditchingham on the Norfolk/Suffolk border, they break old cars al the time and are quite helpful.( I used to own a sprint before it blew up)
