do alloy wheel nuts need a washer
Having just bought £300 of tyres to go on a set of alloys I thought I really should invest in some locking wheel nuts.
They're after market alloys but they' re meant to be for Sierra.
So I bought "Sierra" locking nuts (with matching standard nuts) and I bought a 2nd pack from elsewhere so l'd have enough to lock
the spare wheel as well.
However, none of the nuts have the free spinning washer that the standard Ford nuts have. How much of a problem is this? What are the consequences of
fitting them without? Are they only needed with the standard wheels or do I need them with after market as well?
Thanks,
James

Good question. When I bought new alloy wheels, they came with nuts and they don't have washers, neither do the locking nuts I bought at the same
time. I assumed that they were correct and I've had no problems.

I don't have any free spinning bits on my wheel nuts, other manufactures don't use them.

This is an interesting question for me too.
I have a set of 4-spoke evo wheels and when I brought some new nuts from burton they come with washers. I fitted them but did wonder what they were
for. Spread the weight maybe?
Are yours flat faced nuts or conical?
( the child in me keeps making me smile. . . . . nuts!!)
