Front wishbone mount reinforcement

Now I've got the jig in place for the front wishbone mounts, I can see why people are concerned about the front mount. With the rear mount central to the upright, the front mount really hangs off a lot, even though it looks spot on in comparison with the picture.

Has anyone added any reinforcement behind the overhanging section? Or is it reasonably ok?

My Indy has some, so I'd say it does need beefing up.

Here's a pic of mine, you can see the reinforcements on the front upper mounts

That's excellent, thanks. That's pretty much what I was going to aim for, just a small plate to support the free end.

Thank you both for the replies.

I'd close off the top and bottom as well, if you only fit the vertical gusset plate you won't be able to prepare/paint properly behind the plate and will have red rust running out for ever after.

You can do it quickly. You can do it cheap. You can do it right. – Pick any two.

Yup, I was planning on cutting a profile out of square tube that would sit behind and form an enclosed box.

Ste, I forgot to ask, am I right in thinking that's round tube on the diagonals? What's the thinking behind that?

When I built mine I put an extra bit of section between the FU and the front of the chassis to support the brackets. You'd need to make sure the coil over clears it though.
