cossie calipers fitting on standard sierra hubs?
hi,
just tryed to fit our cossie caliper onto our standard sierra hub and it seems to tight by about 2-3 mm. just wundering if it's the matter of
banging it on, or do you have to cut it to fit. or they will not fit at all.
Any info will be appreciated.
cheers.

Register over on the interford forums - they will sort you out. The questions about wheel caliper/disc combos has been asked loads of times.
Cossie 2pot or 4 pot? btw
from memory cossie 4 pots (2wd) need a few washers as spacers and 4x4 discs (for the right offset) to fit straight on. Not 100% sure though.

Yep, I've got them. But decided not to use them... To make them fit the Sierra hugs, you'll need to grind off something like 5 mm from
either the calipers, or the hubs. That scared me off.
I friend of mine has had it done, but he had his hubs modified. Very complex, very expensive. See: http://friendly.demon.nl/building9.html
There is now also another bearing in there to make it work.

Caliper mounting.
I have just fitted vented disc's and calipers from a XR 4 x 4, and it's a simple task, all you have to do is make up some spacer washers
5mm thick, and place them between the caliper and the mounting lugs on the standard hub, you will need to replace the 25mm fixing machine screws with
30mm HT one's. This does work, as I used it on another special I built some years ago, and nothing fell off!.

All sounds very sexy but the standard Sierra brakes well up to the job.

Chippy, that doesn't work for the 2wd Cossy ones. You need to take material off to make them fit. A spacer will only make the fitting problem
worse.

Hi Mave, had a look at the site you recommended, and the calipers are totaly diferent from those that were fitted to my 4 x 4, so I stand corrected,
(not the first time I have been wrong).

I tried to do this very thing on my RWD Peugeot 205 that used sierra front suspension. I ended up buying a pair of 2wd cossie uprights as well!!! You
will not fit the calipers easily, for a start the threads are in the caliper on the normal sierra and in the upright on the cossie. I threaded the
normal upright to suit but then found that the lugs needed relieving to make room for the caliper, by which time they are dangerously thin (as std
they are a lot thinner than the std cossie ones)
Get cossie uprights if you are doing ths conversion.

You could try the Cossie uprights, but they are really different than the standard Sierra items. Believe me, I tried this route.... The part which
normally hold the McPherson strut is place higher. When you're building your car from scratch, that's no problem.

I think you will find matey needed to shave 5mm off because of the discs he was using? I see it mentions 2wd cossie discs but all the posts i've
seen only mention a very small difference.
2wd Sierra hubs
4pot 2wd cossie calipers
2wd Cossie Discs
Drill & Re-Tap the threads on the hub to M12
Take off a fraction of a mm from the caliper to allow for the slight difference in lining up (Hand file should do it)
2wd Cossie Discs + 4wd Cossie Calipers onto standard 2wd hubs is supposed to be a straight fit.

Nope, that doesn't work.
Are you talking from experience, mr. G? I am.
I tried:
2wd normal Sierra uprights
4 pots from Cossie 2wd
2wd Cossie discs: Doesn't work. You need to shave off 4-5 mm's from the upright. Yes, that's almost half of the lug. Safe? I think
not.
And no, it also doesn't work with 4x4 discs.

No i'm not talking from experience, I'm passing on someone else's experience from the interford forums who's mucked about with
every disc/brake/hub/shaft/diff combo that ford seem to of produced
Variable here might be the upright, 2wd pre 87 or after? pre 87 xr4i upright ?(Mk4 rs turbo calipers with the 260 vents setup).
Safe? No, I don't think so either.

Personally I would sell on the 4 pots and get some 4wd cossie calipers (same as Escort cosworth/Granada 24v) + 2wd cossie discs. Straight bolt on
fitment.
I already have xr4i calipers (same as escort rs turbo mk2 / some granadas) which i am going to get an adapter bracket for and mount onto my standard
hubs + 2wd cossie 283mm discs (which it has been said provides 5% more braking than the first setup mentioned)
