How are these attached
Reference the photo these are the m6 mounting threads on my radiator. They don't appear to be welded from the outside so wondering if they have
studs going right through the plate behind.
Reason I ask is I'm thinking of mounting an intercooler to these but I fear maybe they are only strong enough to take the weight of a fan. The
cooler is small but being bar and plate design is heavy for its size.

Interesting, your assumption looks probable to me. They must be held behind somehow, or adhesive?
Assuming they're aluminium, I'd run a bead of weld around them, simples.

As above. I would certainly look to put a run of weld around those bobbins for extra strength

I'd suspect there may be a short stud, through the tank from the inside and then that boss is screwed down onto it.
If you look down the hole can you see the end of a stud/bolt?
If thats the case, it may have been welded in before the rad is assembled or it could just be bolted up with some sort of sealing washerinside.
I've seen bosses like that welded on (externally) that have then cracked the rad' in the heat affected area, so bolted in would prevent
that issue. If so, don't try undoing or you'll never get it back.

I showed it to one of the fab's in work and he reckoned it was riveted on a bead of weld on the inside to seal it. So I think I'll just
use them to steady the intercooler and come up with something more substantial to take the weight

On the transmission cooler from Kenlowe which I fitted to the tin-top it was fitted tight to the water rad by pads and centre ties.
Having them tight to one another means the airflow through both is uninterrupted.
