Hawk DTC-30 sparks
Just tried swapping to a set of Hawk DTC-30 pads on the front. They seem to do the job quite nicely, takes about one or two stops before they start
working well but after that performance is very good.
However... they do shoot out a lot of sparks. Which looks cool, but is this normal / safe / desirable?

what is desirable about sparks coming from your pads?
Have I missed out on the latest Max power fad?
PLease dont tell me its to make them look like glowing carbon discs. . . . . .
Track days ARE the best thing since sliced bread, until I get a supercharger that is!

I run DTC-30 pads and have never noticed any sparks (or the need to warm the pad up either)....

Did you put them in the right way round?

Yes they are the right way round :-) Don't think they would stop the car very well otherwise. You can't not notice the sparks, it looks
like this!

I would speak to the company you got them from (Cambridge Motorsport?)

Spoke to Cambridge Motorsport, they were quite helpful - apparently this is unusual but not unknown behaviour, although they weren't really sure
why it was happening. Suggested cleaning the discs - so will give that a go and try again.
Wonder if this showed up particularly because it was starting to get a little bit dark, perhaps I wouldn't notice (so much) during full
daylight.

Tried again in full daylight, almost no visible sparks. There seems to be a few sparks during heavy braking then a little burst of sparks at the end
as the brakes are released, but still not much.
Whether this is because the brakes are in some way bedding in, or just because it's light I dunno. Discs feel quite rough, not sure if this is
normal for this type of pad?

Have you tried yours at night Jeff? Might explain the sparks.

I've run the car at night before and have actually had a camera pointing at the disc during an event....no sparks.
