Sierra rear diff, noisey or not

Hi all
During my build I replaced oil seal and took rear cover off cleaned all the gears and did not feel any over play in any of the gears. The diff sound a little noisey when on the run, it is like running gears not a humming noise.

1) Is this normal and am I hearing it because I am seating next to it or is it worn?
2) If it is not worn, what sound proofing can I use to deafen this

Can't hear my diff over the exhaust noise
May sound obvious but check the oil

Oil level almost near the top to the shoulder of filler plug complying with Ford WSM over filling it can cause over heating.

Thanks for your reply thinking about what you said once I am over 40mph the exhaust noise will mask off the diff noise!

I take it you have the correct oil in there?

Mine has had a slight hissing noise for the last ten years , again there isn't any excess play anywhere. I put it down to just having a sheet of ally between the diff and my ear .

I can hear my diff a bit as well. Nothing too bad, just a little bit of whine. It's not changed in thelast 9 years though.

How much play has everyone got between the input shaft turning and the driveshafts rotating? I've got a little, but it's always been there as far as I can recall.
