Sierra LSD's - wot ratio's
Something I should probably know but don't as I've always avoided Sierra parts up till now.
The next project will require at least a 3.92 diff (but preferably over 4.00), but I want an LSD and rear disk brakes. I'm hoping that theres a
Sierra with this set-up, maybe a 4x4? Want to start looking out for one but want to make sure I get the right one (unlike last time with the wrong
'tina diff). I presume they can handle 225+ bhp ok as well?

Oi Git Face!
When I tried to tell you all about this a couple of weeks ago you told me you didn't care as you were fitting a Mustang axle or something batty
like that!
So go away we're not tellin you nuffin!
Oh ok, you did book Sat' night I 'spose.
Sierra 4x4 LSD is only 3.62.
Highest normal Sierra is 3.92 from regular 2.0 non-LSD Sierra.
What you can do is remove the LSD unit and transplant it into the 2.0. Supposedly not too hard to do.
That'll still only give you 3.92 though. The only way I know of to get a higher ratio is to buy a new CWP (crown wheel pinion) from someone and
have that fitted.
They're about 5-700quid though...
Think I'll try and make one from a chunk of steel and some artful angle grinder work!
Cheers,
James

Jasper,

These guys sell a 4.44 CWP. £646 though!
Can't remember who it's made by but I'm sure they do a 4.7 one for it too.
Cheers,
James

as said above, the late dohc 2ltr xr4x4 had a 3.92 lsd iirc. There are no standard dif ratio's above this on a sierra, you'd need to get a
custom cwp set from the likes of kam differentials etc. You could put a sierra viscous type lsd into one of these i guess (or perhaps rather the cwp
you buy into a sierra lsd dif) but imho spending that money, you might as well spend a bit more and get a quiafe atb dif to in there and do the job
properly, just don't tell the mrs what it all costs
Ned.
ps just a look and it's ONLY £1150 for a 4.1 or 4.44 dif with a zf type lsd in it!

That'd be the one! Bit rarer tho' aren't they?
Ned,
KAM, that's the guys! They make them for Raceline. They do the 4.44 and 4.7 if you're really keen!

Cheers chaps - so it's the 2l 4x4 sierra back end I want then.
If anybody has one going spare let me know - no rush, any time before next summer will do fine!
