Lower steering joint

Have anyone tried to remove the rubber disc in the lower end of the Sierra steering colum?

Burton sells a "Group 4 Steering Coupling" which could be used instead of the rubber disc.

I looks like the rubber disc has splines and have been pressed on the steering colum.

My friend has a simple UJ joint at the bottom instead of the "donut".
