Steering Shaft Welding etc.
Hi Guys,
I want to make an extension to a steering shaft using the following two parts.
https://www.extremebajakarts.co.uk/collections/steering-parts/products/latest-rage-5-8-inch-x-36-spline-coupler
https://www.extremebajakarts.co.uk/collections/steering-parts/products/6-inch-long-by-5-8ths-inch-x-36-splined-steel-stub-shaft
What method would you guys use to connect them as well as the welding?

Yeah, thick walled stuff. If it's for the IVA then you should drill and fit a roll pin in each joint too.

Hi,
I don't think it would fit. The adaptor loos a lot bigger than 5/8"???
Yeah, I have used roll pins on all of them so far.

When I built my Dax Rush the Sierra Steering column needed extending.
Dax would not sell the Parts. I believe a customer welded their own with a very serious out come.
They would only weld them to my own steering and then serial numbered it.
Be very careful.

Hi ya,
All the steering on Haynes has to be welded at some point and all the parts available.
On the two shafts I have made so far have been connected with tube with shaft inside, puddle welded in lots of places, then a roll pin in each end.

^^ what he said - although that was due to the customer using inappropriate welding wire / rods
if its for a ford column with the triangular section then a few places sell steeing UJ's that fit this (inc. CBS) no welding required

Its not a Ford one and I need to extend the shaft by say 100mm. So have a splined socket and a splined shaft requiring connecting together.
