Type 9 2.0L box onto V6

I've had a sniff round but can't find a definitive answer! This is related to my XR4i but the same setup might soon be in the kit. I have a Tran-X straight cut 2.0l type 9 gearbox, lovely sound, lovely gearing, very strong. What i want is to be able to attach it to my 2.8i V6 without the problems ive had.

I know the input shaft is longer etc etc. Is there a bellhousing (readily available not an ally aftermarket item) i can use that will help wit the situation? I originally used a rs2000 (mk2 escort) item and lastly a 2.3 granny item. What obviously happens is the box sits too close to the clutch and the 'fingers' of the clutch mill away at the end of the input shaft sleeve. By the time i took it back out the car again the clutch release bearing just about had enough sleeve to move on!!!

I take it i could spacer between the engine and bellhousing but then the input shaft would be to short???

If im not mistaken when the weak boxes go in the xr4x4 they replace them with cossie ones...which are obviously 2.0l ones.......

Help !!!

Cheers

There is someone, somewhere who makes the very adapter plate you require. I think it actually sits inbetween the bellhousing and the gearbox. I havent got a clue who it is though sorry......
Although if you know the measurement, I would guess that your local machine shop would make one for reasonable cost. In fact it would probably be something that could be done at home with a little patience, after all its only four little holes and one big one.

Dont just build it.....make it!

I have used a 2.0l box on my 2.9 granada, I used the bellhousing from the 2.9, and had a insert made to fit on the end of the input shaf this then engages the spigot bearing in the crank.

Thanx for the replies Stu and Alistair. Was that a newish 2.9 housing?

As for the insert, can you remember its size and dimensions roughly??? Also was that a 2.9 / 2.0 clutch..from what i remember thier roughly the same. Didnt know if it was a mix and match of 2.9 clutch 2.0 cover etc. Didnt know if i needed to swap the input shaft clutch release bearing sleeves over as obviously they are different lengths for the different inout shaft lengths.

I'm still fiddlingh about with all options..cheers again for your time in both replying.

I'm pretty sure that Sierra Cosworths have Borg Warner T5 gearboxes

I'm probably wrong but

2wd cossiebox = T5

4 wd cossie box = MT75 ???

I've always wondered why its possible to fit a box that works on a 2.0l fitment (albeit 4x4) onto a V6 fitment as an upgrade without any input shaft length problems unlike the Type 9 (2.0l) onto V6.

Cheers

I used a 2l box from a f reg granada, the bellhousing was from a 2.8 capri, the clutch and flywheel are also from the 2.8 capri. The input shaft spacer was made by a friend a college on a cnc lathe. my brother has used this same setup in his xr4i for over two years with no problems.

Sorry to drag this old post up again but I now have someone who has a lathe and could possibly make the adapter up for me. Do you have any dimensions or drawings of the adapter at all Alistair??

Any help appreciated - and any new ideas as well.

Cheers
