Mk2 Escort Rack Query
Is it a standard width rack that is used in a standard book locost with standard width wishbones?
I have a rack and can buy a 2.4 quick rack kit (rack and pinion) for £50 ish. Are they easy and simple to fit, or shall I just buy a quick rack?
Cheers,
Pat...

Pat,
Where are you getting the kit from? Do they do bulk buy discounts? I could do with one!

I uprated an Imp rack some years back using a Jack Knight pinnion (just over 1 turns lock to lock !) it was easy --- I also fitted a new pinnion
bearing bought from a bearing supply company.
Main thing to remember is the rack should move freely without binding through full its full range of travel -- not just around the cedntre.

So it should be easy to do without any special tools or skills?
Is the width with standard arms ok for a standard locost with standard bones?

Apparently they are just ok -- depends on the steering rack sits fore-aft in relation to the outer track rod ends.
Sierra track rod end are a bit longer than cortina/escort ones

Yeah, that's what the Avon uses. No, just a standard one at the mo.
Bulk buy? What do you think?

Would you happen to know by how much? Does the taper fit a Cortina upright?
Cheers

I got a quick rack from RD, I thought of fitting the kit, you will need new gaiters and oil etc so now I have 1 standard & 1 quick and I can fit
a kit at my leisure
