2.0 Zetec to RX8 Assembling...

Hi All,

I need some advice from you peeps.

I have a 2.0 Zetec and 6-speed RX8 gearbox.Going to order the adaptor plate soon.

What else do I need for the conversion?

Sierra CVH sump and starter motor, is that correct?

What clutch, flywheel and slave cylinder?

Anything else I need to put the 2 together?

Thanks in advance for the advice!

Cheers

1.8 Sierra flywheel, with crank sensor pick up, clutch plate and pressure plate to suit that flywheel, RX8 release bearing, 10mm machined off front of Mazda bellhousing to make up for adapter plate(10mm thick), RX8 slave cylinder.

I'm doing th same conversion myself, and found this thread on turbosport very useful :-

Rx8 conversion

He doesn't mention the machining 10mm off the front of the mazda casing though, and my box seems to mate up fine without .....

Does the nose of the input shaft go into the spigot bearing? Mine didn't. I assumed as the plate added 10mm i needed 10mm taking off the bell housing
Mine definitely didn't go into the spigot bearing so i had the front of housing milled off.

1.8 cvh flywheels with sensor drillings are super rare. Do you mean Zetec 1.8? A 1.8 Sierra CVH toothed wheel can easily be fixed to a Zetec front pulley.

Ahh that explains it Mate. No problem. Really like th job you did with the focus. Was going to do that myself, but there was just too much involved and I managed to get hold of a Mk2 Escort van in good nick to put the bits into instead.

All the 1.8 cvh lumps I’ve come across, and it’s been a few had the crank trigger on the front pulley. The 1.6 however does have it on the flywheel but the Sierra chi flywheel is very heavy. The Escort is the light one but very rare.

1.8 Zetec is a good budget bet.

The 1.8 cvh sump is nasty. Best part of 30 years old and most are posh rotten and not even a good fit on a black top. They also go for daft money.

If you haven’t bought a gearbox adapter there is a nicer alternative to the Rx8 conversion on a Zetec. The Retro ford mk3 N7 conversion. Smaller, lighter and a little more developed than the Rx8 setup. The only dear bit is the csc conversion.
Nice alloy adapter plate. Uses a 1.8 Zetec flywheel drilled for a pinto clutch.

Sierra 1.8 cvh flywheel is very light at about 6.5kg iirc.
