Nuts & Bolts questions...
I am assembling my front suspension and brakes but just need to make sure I am using the right bolts - so here goes...
1. Ford Capri discs onto Racleda hubs - The 4 bolts are M10 x 25 but do I have to use extra high tensile or will the std 8.8 do?
2. What size is the castle headed (or is it slotted) nut on a Cortina stub axle?
3. Wilwood Dynalite calipers - What thread are the bolts that join the two caliper halves? They are not metric so I guess UNF?
Any help will be appreciated guys

I'm not familliar with any of the components you mention, so can't give definitive answers, but;
- I would contact Raceleda and ask what they recommend for the hubs. As a general rule, if in doubt, go up a Class/Grade.
- Haven't a clue.
- If the fasteners are through bolts, then yes, they will be UNF, but if they are tapped into the body, they will most likely be UNC. If you're
building a car, you should have a set of thread gauges.
Cheers, Rorty.

Nearly spot on Rorty -
1. The socket caps required are one stage higher than 8.8 (is it 12.9 or something?) and I have now fitted them
2. Still searching but I think I have found some now
3. The thread is UNC which is the same as BSW I think.
Thanks for the input Rorty
Damn these olde worlde yanks for using british thread sizes - why don't we all use the BLITISH STANDARD

Yes and no: I would guess that the Wilwood fasteners are 3/8" UNC, which by coincidence has the same TPI as 3/8" BSW, but BSW is not the
same as UNC. Take for example 1/2" UNC has 13 TPI, but 1/2" BSW has 12 TPI. Also, the thread form is different, so don't use a BSW
tap for tapping a 3/8" UNC thread.
BTW, the next Class above 8.8 is 10.9 and then 12.9.

Ah I see - the socket caps I used are indeed 3/8"BSW which are a nice fit in the UNC tapped calipers. I think I got lucky just this once then
Apparently most socket caps have either 10.9 or 12.9 tensile rating (didn't know that)
Steep learning curve when your life depends on the use of the right bolts innit

To be on the safe side, I would replace the BSW cap heads with UNC items, just to ensure proper thread mating.
Cheers, Rorty.

Thanks for the tip Rorty. I'll do that - no sense in cutting corners on brakes
