master cylinders

My escort master cylinder is leaking, its a 19mm bore, what othes master cylinders have people used with success in combination with m16 calipers & standard mk2 escort 1300 rear cylinders,

19mm -- really 0.75" bore used on most small to medium cars of the 60s and 70s with disk brakes but without servo but quite hard to find now as most cars have had servos since around 1977. However as it is Girling cylinder it is easy to rebuild with a repair kit just take care when removing the resevoir as they are easily broken. You will have to remove the resevoir to get the little peg (or pegs) out that retain the front piston.
The problem was most likely caused by a build up of crud at the pedal end of the cylinder, just clean out the bore and try and polish out any scorring with ultra fine wet and dry and Brasso.

Seal kits are available from motor factors. Mine were about £10.
Exchange master cylinders are about £60.

thanks british trident , I hoped you would help, you seem to know about these things, my cylinder was sat for about 12 years & the bore is untouched except the first 3/8" which is corroded & its here that its leaking, its an ATE & I've been quoted £90 for a replacement, trouble is Ive drilled my pedal box to suit it, thants why Ive asked here,

all the sierras are 22mm which will need an increase in pedal force, but I dont know by how much, I hav borrowed a trw catalogue from the local motor factors & found a mk2 fiesta which is 19mm pt no PMD314, anybody used one of these !!!

That's my standby!
Gotta Westie mcyl (17.8mm bore), to start of, but I suspect it might need upping to the 19mm unit. It will need new mounting holes drilling, so it's not an insurmountable problem.

just found out that on the fiesta mc, the mounting holes are not horizontal

The Fiesta MK1 or Mk2 without servo --- not exactly thick on the ground most Fiestas had servos. Another one is the Cortina Mk3 1300 without servo -- same again Most 1300 Cortinas I encountered had a servo.

Another one is the FX4d Taxi (same as Triumph Sptifire).

You can get stainless steel liners fitted to these cylinders -- not sure of the cost.

The alternative is to make a flange adaptor out a short length of 1.5" or 1.75" dia pipe with a flange welded on each end.

Once had a quote of over £400 for a new master cylinderon an old Alfa, Past Parts in BurySt Edmunds resleeved and overhauled it for around £75 . Sure an Escort cylinder would be cheaper, They may be able to help with a new replacement? sorry don't have thier number to hand
