Diff..
How smooth should a diff pinion turn?? Ive got my diff out and when i turn the pinion it feels rough. Not sure if its the bearings or just the feel
of the teeth together.. The bearings look good so i hope it aint them..

The bearings themselves should be dead smooth. The best way to check bearings is to remove them from whatever they are on/in, then apply pressure to
the inner race like you are trying to push it out of the outer then turn it. Repeat for both directions. It should be dead smooth both directions. If
it feels 'lumpy' or makes some noise then one of the races is pitted (rust or abuse) and its time for a new bearing.
When inserting/removing bearings special care should always be taken not to put any load through the races. Ie if putting it into a housing (like a
hub) then tap on the outer race only. If putting it on a shaft, tap on the inner race only. (you get the idea) Hence special drifts often being needed
to install/remove bearings.

Or a lenght of thick wall tube the right size. It may need modification (splitting and re joining or welding on lugs) depending on circumstances.

Its the front pinion bearing thats gone. My fault cos i left it in my garden flange down and there was a bit of water in it when i stripped it..
Just gotta change the thing now..
