Propshaft Bolts
Morning guys,Gone and lost my propshaft bolts (Cortina Diff) anyone know size and thread type of these varmints.

I am almost certain that the sierra ones are the same thread (different head size but that doesn't really matter) and they are metric,
can't remember the thread though now, has slipped my mind as I started to write this! A ford dealer will certainly furnish you with some sierra
ones though.

I thought my Escort live diff (Mk2) ones were UNF, they might be metric fine though. Either way they are ~8mm diameter so either 8mm or 5/16" Id
think

M10x1 usually
Finer than normal with a 15mm head.

Does anyone know if Escort Mk2 are the same size (M10 x 1.0)?
Also, do they need to be special bolts from Ford, or what?

theyn need to be high tensile bolts (the sierra ones are the 'blue' type .... HTH - i would have thought 12.9s would be necessary

picked up some ht 5/16" unf bolts for my escort mk2 axle the other day and they fit perfectly. havnt tested them on the move for strength but
the thread is spot on. if seat belt mounts anything to go on m10x1 (fine) is close but no cigar.

The bolts on the Capri (Atlas/Salisbury) axle are MOST DEFINITELY Metric, M10x1. The UNF bolts will go in but are not the right thread, I very nearly
made this mistake when I built my rally car!
What I don't know is if the cortina axle is definitely the same, but I believe that it is.

I just spoke to to Fisher Sportscars - lots of Furys have live axles - and was told the Escort Mk2 diff has M10 x 1.0 bolts (same as early Sierra).
I'm getting some tomorrow from the local Ford dealer, so fingers crossed

Good luck - I went to my local Ford dealer last week to get a new M14 Nylok nut for my Sierra steering column - discontinued.
So now I have to send off for one, and the postage will be more than the nut's cost. Alternatively, I have to walk a few miles across London to
Clerkenwell Screws... a good shop, but they have a £1.50 minimum charge.

just came back from clerkenwell screws! cash = big discount and no minimum, nsure you can lug a pound coin accross town.
anyway, got the m10x1 bolts. expensive buggers but seems to be the story of this car. cant get to the workshop till sunday to try them.
just thinking out load - all other nuts/bolts on drivetrain seem to be imperial - engine, gearbox etc etc. therefore it would seem more likely that
these chaps also UN. that said, brake fittings are M10x1, so guess both make sense from original manufacturing tooling cost point of view.
will post on sunday with all exciting news of bolt fitting!!

Escort Mk1 was mostly/all imperial, Mk2 was in the transition period from imperial to metric. Nowhere clearer than in the steering arm ball joints!

Joel gave me set of bolts at the show last week (blessings be upon him).
They are 10x1's as Pete rightly said,sods law say's the originals will turn up now.

worried? maybe. slipped in the 10x1 s on theweekend and its got to be said the fit is tighter (oh er). not much to choose between them and considering
the bolts are dsigned to lug the best part of a ton around, as opposed to a featherwaight locost, all should be fine. howevefr, the better option
would appear to be to go with the metrics.

Got the bolts from the local Ford dealer on Saturday and fitted them - nice close but smooth fit, so I think they are right! (live axle).
