Alternatives to front hub assemblies
I keep hearing that the front uprights from a cortina should be used. Now what I don't know is if the Mk of Cortina makes a difference. Also, could I
use Sierra / Capri ??
Not sure what an upright is as I always knew the hub assembly as being just that, ie the bit the brake disk bolts onto, and the bit that connects to
the suspension. Having removed the Escort front assemblies I can see they have a long verticle strut, so I could appreciate them as being uprights.
If I get the 'uprights' should I expect it to include calipers (I have a set from a MkII Escort doing nothing). If not, would the Escort calipers
fit the Cortina upright?
Any advice welcome.

Hi John,
you want uprights from a mk3 to mk 5 Cortina, the Sierra and Capri don't have a top ball joint, as they use macpherson strut suspension.
However.....you can use sierra uprights if you use wishbones specifically for them (MK make them)and something called a"mushroom" which bolts into
the hole left by the strut, and allows the use of a ball joint.
You're right the upright is sometimes called the hub, and yes you should get the calipers with them. The upright is the bit that holds the disk and
caliper.
The correct callipers are "M16", and this should be marked on the caliper,not sure if the Escort ones are OK or not.

Yes they are, at least mk2 Escort ones are. Capri, Cortina and Escort all used M16 calipers! Hope this clears things up.
