Lower column to steering rack
I'm trying to fit my sierra modified lower column to a Mk2 Escort rack. It is TAF.
Are the splines different or is there a way to fit them other than brute force ?
TIA

you have to fully remove the lockbolt, not just loosen it. Caught me out anyway

Thanks guys but the bolt is out and its still tight.
Is there a method to putting it on that I don't know about ?
Any help would be apprecviated as I want to let the car see daylight after 2 &1/2 years and steering would help

I hammered an old screwdriver into the slot (the one that's closed by the bolt) to widen it a little bit.
This gave me enough leeway to force the thing on and, being tapered, was easy enough to waggle out afterwards.

Likewise with the screwdriver wedge and also make sure you have the shaft extension dead in line with the splined shaft, not at the angle you want it
to finish at.
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

There is a 'key' effect with these where some of the splines are filled in on the rack. The blank area has to line up with the split of
the down link.
Make sure you have it the right way round.
Did that make sense?
Cheers,
James

Like this. But I think there is a corresponding master slot in the column end as well as the slit.
