I bet they'll tell you that as more people un the US are on line than the whole of the rest of the world together that they have a right to
control it. How else will they evesdrop on all the communications if some of the web is run by the chinese or japanese or the cheese eating surrender
monkeys or whoever.

wasnt the internet originally a spin off of the american military......
if you want global domination, think microsoft.
If the next version required that you had to operate it with your finger in your ear, we would all be doing that as what alternative is there?
Before you say apple, if they were doing so well in computers, why bother with Ipod?

The internet is just a network of networks. The US government, several large corporations and various groups of universities linked by leased
telephone wires started it. I think it included JANet - the Jount Academic Network or British universities. Now it is a network of large hubs linked
by fibreoptics, satelite phone links, tansatlantic cables, anything. Many companies own sections of cable and servers but no-one owns the whole thing
and that's the beauty of it. If anyone closes off their bit of the network, there are 101 other ways to route the data from source to
destination.
The americans control the central database of URL to IP numbers. When you type in http://www... this gets translated ino 192.123.456.789 which points
to where the data is stored. The US agency allocates the addresses and routes all inquires. In theory, they could turn off the "world wide
web" (all the www. stuff) but the internet would still work. Do you know how to use FTP?
America should be told to "stick it" The Internet, like the world, doesn't belong to them, it belongs to us all. www addresses and
IP addresses should be allocated regionally not centrally. If they don't like it, tell them to keep the world wide web and the rest of us
should start our own. It should work on the same principle and work on the the same inernet. rather than typing www... type web... this will go to
a web address server in your own country or continent which will direct you to the IP address of your choice. Thet them keep their server and the
rest of us can ignore them.

They Bloody well invented the internet.. IMHO its theirs!.. we just joined our networks to theirs...
After all it was supposed to be a resillient network that automatically re-routed the traffic in the event of a single or multiple points of
failure.
ie they wanted to ensure the Launch codes and Targetting information got to the missiles come what may...
Those times have passed and the network has expanded out of all proportion into a Global network.
Its only about another 20 years away, and the Net will become self aware and attack us humans , sparking off a devastating war for the survival of the
Human Race.... Who said the net was a good thing!..
We must act now to prevent the mass production of robotic machines and the next generation of machines that will design and develop even more
sophisticated machines without the help of Man....
We are all DOOMED... I am going to beddies to get a good nights sleep before I have to sleep with a Ray gun under my pillow in case of an attack by
Polymorphic metalised plastic endoskeletal machinery that only My pet pooch can recognise.
1. The point of a journey is not to arrive.
2. Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.

In which case we invented the world wide web and it is that that they want to dominate.
The fact is that they didn't invent is any more than tim berners-lee did. They don't own it and they no more right to control is as
anyone else. despite the rest of the world saying it should be run by an international organisation, the US want to keep control for themselves.
It's just another nail in the coffin of the public image of America to the rest of the world. And they wonder "why does everyone hate
us"

I thougt that AL Gore invented the internet.
I think that the US Gov should keep it's hands off of the internet, and a lot of other things I like to do.
If Halliburton did porn GW & Cheney would keep their hands off.

Ah that which we all refer to as the internet then... Don't forget HTML as well... NSF actually invented the real internet, the US Govt used
ARPAnet for email I believe...

unfortunately while various people have control of national DNS, web protocols etc, all name resolution is based on DNS which is heirachical and
ultimately runs from the (9, iirc) root nameservers that ICANN control. ultimately if these get messed about with, it doesn't matter if we
control everything under .uk, the americans can just switch off ".uk" or point it somewhere else.
Having control of the WWW protocols (HTTP, HTML and friends) is a bit like saying we control exactly how we are going to send people magazines
through the post, what language they're going to be in, how the pictures are laid out, how people order the magazines they want, and all the
rest of it. Unfortunately in this analogy the americans control the system whereby the post office interprets the address on the envelope, so if they
mess with that you don't get your magazine.
In reality there are various ways around it, but it would cause a lot of problems to try and move away from the root nameservers.
