Gold, Blue, X, Y Ford don't seem to know

I am finally completing the refurb of my sierra back end. (After several unwanted mishaps, see previous posts !!!)
On reassembly, using the Haynes Sierra manual the following is stated:

From May 1986, revised final drive unit rear mounting bolts have been used in production......Whenever the earlier type of bolts are removed, they should be discarded and the later type fitted. The earlier type are coloured blue the later type are coloured gold.

Ford know nothing about this (called two dealerships).

In particular I am talking about the four bolts that hold the rear hub carrier/brake backplate to the suspension arm. (Haynes reference bolt types X and type Y). Mine are blue coloured.

The question is why did ford change the specification and do I need to go and buy a new set of bolts (golds ones) to replace my blue ones.

There are differnent torque setting for the two types:

X (blue ?) 52 to 64 Nm
Y (gold ?) 80 to 100 Nm

thanks

All 3 Sierra's I've pulled apart have had blue bolts and they've been 'B', 'D' (both 4wd) and 'F' (2wd) reg so both new and old type seem to have blue bolts.

Not that that really helps you- just says what a load of nutsack Heynes talks!

Cheers,

James

Funny that's exactly what the local Ford dealer said "Haynes publish info before they check their facts !!!"

Anyway, I just jumped right in, torqued them babies up to 60 Nm . Everything's tight so should be OK

thanks
