ford granada rear end

with the kit im building its designed to run ford granada rear diff shafts and hubs. However i have been told that should i use this set up with the chevy LS1 engine i am wanting with 400+hp i will be froever destroying diffs.

Can anyone clarify this for me?

I reckon so unless u can find a Granada Cosworth Diff's which i assume will be stronger. I may be wrong though.

Are better internals not available?

some granadas used the 7.5 diff which went into the 2wd cos sierra and are reputably stronger than the 7" but unless you drive like a twat i doubt youll break it but more likely bugger the viscous lsd

if i ever do another v8 car thats the motor il use its like it was designed to be the best choice for any kit/hot rod , nothing sticking out and the lowest induction set up ive seen for such a big displacement

I have read somewhere that a 7" diff (typical from a granny) is rated to about 250BHP. A search should turn up some results.

What kit you building ? with all that power up front and most likely a bit light on the rear end lack of traction should take a lot of weight off the diff so maybe the granny will be ok.

Diff

I may be wrong but i thought all Granadas had 71/2" Diifs, Don't know haow much power they would take though. and not sure what models fit an LSD, got one from a 2.0l, no LSD.

im building a venom GT2, i see your point with the weight not putting as much pressure on it, the grannys a big heavy old barge.

would the granada diff be the same as the sierra cosworth, because then take silly ammounts of power and torque.

Try and get hold of the diff from a Scorpio 24v. There are loads of these breaking now (the frogeye ones) and the whole cars are only going for £400-£500 so a diff will be pretty cheap and these are 7.5" lsd jobbies.

I know of a chap using one behind an LS1 (modified one) in a spaceframed opel manta.

As NS Dev says, look for the running gear from a 24V Scorpio. Ideally a pre-bugeye one as I have a feeling that the bugeyes dont in fact have LSDs since they use traction control instead (they also have a different rear cover with a big rubber bush mounted to the side). Could be wrong on that, but if you look for a pre-bugeye 24V Scorp then you are gauranteed an LSD. The same diff as a Sierra Cosworth but without cossie tax!

I dont think the cossie boys worry about the rear diff until about the 500bhp level, and that's in a heavy sierra. A standard 7.5" should be fine with 400bhp in a light car.

Thanks guys, now on the hunt for a 24 valve granada to start ripping apart.

Spoke to a ford owners club though and have been told the only difference between the 2wd sierra cossie diff and the granada 24v one is the driveshaft flanges and the price .
