peugeot wheels again

Hi all

I've bought a cheap set pug alloys of ebay, to save buying new nut I was wondering if I could drill the wheels to suit the ford taper?

Also is a spigot ring needed? my brothers just bought new alloys for his Leon and they came with plastic rings, surely they only help to centre the wheel until the bolts are fitted

You could drill the wheels, but i think most wheels have a steel insert to seat the nuts.
The Spigot ring takes the weight of the car (or 1/4 of it). On a car weighing half a ton, taking the weight on the studs shouldn't be a problem. I wouldn't do it on anything bigger.

its always best to fit a ring if you can get one !
( also stops wheel wobble)

as for cutting a 60 deg taper down the wheel
its your wheel !
i wouldn't do it !
see if your local engineer shop can do it !
cause if its not central then your going to get a wobble and do all sorts of problems
at worst the wheel will come off !
best bet would be just to get new nuts !

Don't try it it has to be exactly right or you will forever get the wheels nuts slackening off.

The joint between the wheel the hub is 100% friction neither the studs nor the the spigot need to take any weight or torque.

Can anyone confirm ford sierra studs are M12 x 1.5 ?

I'm drilling my pug wheels to take 5/8" sleeve nuts (nearest available wheelnut size to the existing pug sleeve hole) with flat washers, nobody sees a prob with this do they?

Tis a prob with these wheels as pug nuts are M12 x 1.25 "semi sleeve" nuts and the wheels have no inserts. They tighten onto a flat face, and no sleeve nuts are available to fit the existing pug sleeve hole, hence my drilling out to 5/8"
