Cortina ball joint

Sorry if this is in the wrong section but here goes.
After making my bottom bones I was looking at the balljoint and cannot get my head around the engineering of it in a Seven (nothing strange there).
I would have thought that with the weight of the vehicle on the wheels, and the resulting force pushing up the coil over, there would be a tendency for the bone to want to bend at the at a second area (second moment (picked that up on another thread)) this in turn surely puts pressure/forces in the area where the flat balljoint mounting plate is with little support underneath it. (where the 8mm bolts are).
So basically I'm asking why there are 12mm bolts and 6 mm bolts in different areas of the ball joint blate?
Don't be to technical with me please just a laymans explanation will do. (When you've finished ROFLMAO) at my ignorance.
