Good engine builders in Berkshire?

Hi

Can anyone recommend a good engine builder or suitable engineering firm nr'ish Reading that could help me with my crossflow rebuild?

Cheers
Gary

Gary,

Why not have a go yourself - it's not that hard....

Alternatively, Vulcan aren't that far away..

I'd agree with Stephen, arm yourself with a haynes and give it a go, they're the simplest of engines and it's very satisfying!

Guys, thanks for the replies.

Steve, Marcus the first job on the list is a rebore. Is that possible with a B&Q pillar drill ;-)

I also fancy having the bottom end balanced (that reminds me). Steve when can I come and look at your flywheel?

Cheers

Gary

I generally build my own engines using the 'How to build and tune Crossflow engines' book (Purple, Wallage??).

I get a local company (SLARK @ Amesbury) to balance/grind/rebore as required, and then put all the bits together. It's quite simple as long as you make sure everything is spotless and you follow the book to the letter.

There is satisfaction in thrashing an engine you have built, and the engine-knowledge you gain are amazing.

It might go DONK (one of mine has), but that's how you get the experience.

Mike

Rolling road about 2 years ago.

To be honest, my carbs weren't in the best condition, and the guy (Simon?) set them as best as he could...but the timing was so bad that the thing was overheating at idle...caused me no end of trouble over the Le Mans trip the following week as I didn't have a strobe light to reset the buggering thing.

The thing that bugged me was the level of communication from them

The guy on the rolling road was about as communicative as a brick wall, and the old guy running the place only seemed interested in smoking his pipe and selling me a new set of carbs.

BTW Posted my experiences on the Sylva list at the time, and a few people chimed in with similar experiences.
