Caster Angle

Today, I finally got the Viento to stand on its own four feet.
I have been checking the steering and suspension geometry.

I have a Luego factory built chassis, and it should give me approx 3 degrees Caster angle.

I have set the bottom wishbone as far forward as I can, and the top one as far back as I can with the spacer washers.
When I measure the caster angle, I get + 5 degrees on Both sides. Well at least they are both the same.

Reading the bumpf that came with the gauge, it should be - Negative, not + Posative degrees, as + pos is leaning forwards.

I have read and re read the destructions, and cannot understand what might be wrong, if anything at all.
Its a Longacre Gauge with three bubble gauges in it.
Camber was a doddle to set up with it.

What does the team think?.

Best Regards

When you look at the balljoints from above, is the top one behind ( closer to the rear of the car ) the bottom one?
If yes and you get five degrees your car is fine and you have got confused with your '+'s and '-'s.

My car (own design) is only 3 degrees, but self centering is a bit of a problem. Racecars normally have 3 degrees negative and road cars between 5 and 6 degrees.
I would leave yours at 5 until after sva to ensure that yours works!

Have you used the wishbones with the offset of the balljoint bush set to the rear ?

i.e. - are they upside down or to the wrong sides ?

I was careful when I fitted the top wishbone, and had to measure the legs, as it was very close (the difference in length on one side). I am absolutely sure I have them on the right way round / up.

Mind you I could still be wrong
But I dont think so.

I will check again tomnorrow, as I am over the locl sports and social club.. Free Internet in here!!.

I appreciate the thoughts.. as I cant see whats wrong. Oh definately dont have the + / - wrong, its on the gauge, and I can read. well almost
