Sierra driveshaft types?
Hi folks,
I'm having great difficulty getting the correct replacement driveshaft gaiter/covers for my sierra driveshafts. I'm not building a locost
(!) but actually trying to fix my SSC Stylus. We all use the same donor parts so hopefully you guys can help me!
I have the push-in tripod joints, and rear drum brakes, and a diff from a 2.0l (3.92:1) . The problem is that my left and right driveshafts have
different sized joints. The bit that goes in the diff and the bit that goes through the hub are identical, but the diameter of the metal cover over
the joint is about 5mm larger on one side compared to the other.
I've already ordered two different joint kits from 'Ford Parts UK', but neither fit the side with the larger joint. I've tried
pre 91 2.0l, and post 91 2.0l. The pre-91 2.0l joint cover fits my smaller joint. The post-91 joint is completely different to either.
Does anyone know which model sierra has the larger tripod joint? The outer diameter is about 5mm larger than the 2.0l joint, (about 77mm).
I've got an inkling that the 1.8CVH model might be it, but I'd like some confirmation before ordering yet another kit!
Many thanks,
Jeff

I need the metal cover, because you have to destroy the old one when removing it. I needed to remove the old one because the o-ring was letting the
grease leak out. The rubber gaiter isn't the problem.
Cheers,
