Removing seized diff plug
Any ideas on how to remove a knackered seized diff plug from a sierra diff ? Only I would like to top the oil up !!! Incidently what oil should I fill
a sierra 3.62 LSD with ? It is being driven from a 2.0 L Zetec engine and type 9 gearbox.

If I was in this situation, I think I'd find the largest nut in my spares box, one where the thread is just smaller than the outside diameter of
the filler plug, and I'd weld through the nut onto the plug.
Two things happen here. You have much more leverage with a larger fastener, and the heat should be enough to break the seal. It does mean a new plug
of course. (unless your welding's neat!  )
As for the lubrication, I'm not sure. You mean you don't have a haynes manual?! 
I'll have a look next time I'm in the garage.

Thanks I came to this conclusion myself. Haynes manual..yes however always good to get second opinion. What is good for a 2 tonne sierra is not always
appropriate for a 600Kg seven !!!!

iv'e used synthetic gear oil in mine,as its quite thin, only problem is the price £32 for 4 litres.

Got the plug out by: drilling the knakered allen key socket out with a 12mm drill (not right through though), then cutting a M12 bolt to about 3cm and
welding it into the hole I had just drilled. Very little effort was then required to remove the plug. Had to buy a new one though (£4.50 from
Ford).
I think maybe the heat help a lot.
£32 for 4 litres yikes...

the granada mk3 manual, using same diff, (haynes) specified std ep90 gear oil.
