Sierra diff flange retaining nut?

Just curious as to whether people replace these when rebuilding? And loctite?

It's the nut that sits on top of the flange and seems to have a small nyloc section to it. Would you get it from a Ford main dealer? Cost ish? Torque figures?

Thanks,

Chris.

on the front flange that bolts to the prop?

if so, don't touch it unless you plan to strip the diff down or change the pinion seal. between that and the crush spacer, it sets the pinion bearing preload. if you do undo it, count the turns it was undone by exactly and retighten it to that amount. if not, you'll need a rolling torque gauge to reset the preload.

You can replace pinion oil seal/nut on sierra type diff no need to worry about preload as the pinion flange nut does not effect pinion pre load see link below.

Thanks for that Pete!

I have heard a lot recently that the preload is set by this nut and was at a loss to see how it could.

That Haynes outake seems to put that to rest.

Just curious as to whether any standard nyloc would do the job or whether the Ford one is required? Thread Pitch??

Thanks again guys,

Chris.

Apparently Ford don't stock this anymore!

But measurements are M16 x 1.5 so fingers crossed I can find somewhere local.

Chris.

If it's part 28 on the pic below then Ford should still stock them. Ask for FINIS # 6122453. Listed as £1.70inc VAT Rescued attachment untitled.JPG
