Rear Axle, Cables pipes etc 'in contact'

Hi folks,
do the handbrake cables need to be completely free of any contact with the p/shaft tunnell and rear axle? Do we need additional supports to ensure this. Eg some sort of bracket to hold the outer casing somewhere along the axle casing - or can it simply 'do it's own thing'?

What rear end are you using?

Most just have a bracket at the top of the tranny tunnel at the back.
