Changing the rotation direction of tyres? Good idea?
Hi, just been to the mechanics with my tintop to have the suspension alignment checked and adjusted. They have done that but after the adjustments the
car still pulled to the right slightly. They suggested to check if swapping the two front wheels cures it. They have done that and it is better
now.
The question is, after having run about 10.000 miles on these tyres (Good Year NCT 5 - 175/65 R14) in one direction, does it do any harm to change
their rotation direction? What do you think?
I have left them swapped for now, but only drove about 10 miles until now.
Thanks!
Gergely

Not sure it matters unless they're directional tyres? Although if the car pulls to one side, I don't think swapping the tyres over has
actualy "fixed" the problem!

A couple of decades ago tyre rotation was normal procedure - front-to-back and side-to-side. I'd guess that if the original tracking was wrong
then they may have worn in an irregular way, so swapping them over may cancel out the 'error'.
I can't see any harm in swapping, as long as they've not got a directional pattern. Just keep an eye on them for a while and check for
abnormal wear or 'feathering' on the edge of the tread blocks.
