Help!! - Gearboxes
I have the possibilty of an ex-race 'rocket' box, a four speed I am told. I have scoured the web for info on this box, but is mainly
historic stuff or companies selling uprated internals, no general info...
Can anyone tell me where this box came from? was it cortinas, capris or rs2000 escorts? I've also come across the 2000e box.
The box should be pretty solid as it is from an old Clubmans A front engined (vauxhall) Mallock. I am thinking/hoping it might be a straight cut box
too.
Anyone got any info/can shed any light on this? will it be suitable, will it fit (I have a vauxhall xe engine and should be getting the adapter
bellhousing with it)
How much would it be worth? (might be taking it as full/part payment for a website job)
Thanks,
Andrew.

This may answer some of your questions :
Type E Gearbox
4 speed single rail gearbox, used for more demanding applications than the Type 3 box. It is available with or without an integral bellhousing. Often
referred to as the 'Rocket' box. (Rocket is the name of the original close-ratio competition gearbox that was based on the Type E).
Fitted in:
Capri 1.6/2.0 82 on
Cortina Mk3 2.0
Cortina Mk4/5 1.6GT/2.0/2.3
Escort RS2000 Mk1/2
Escort RS Mexico Mk2
Sierra 1.6/2.0
All got from the Burton Power website.

I thought all gearboxes have changable ratio's, mine has even got a rod sticking out of the top so you can do it while I am driving!!

The original 'Rocket' box design came out for the old 2000E corsair. They needed something special to make them go cos nobody understood
the 2.0 V4 engine and generallly they were Sh*t*. But the Rocket boxes went on to better things.
Enjoy.
