bleeding wilwoods

We've just been trying to bleed my new wilwoods.

1 side is fine but the second side is gripping the disc even when the pedal isn't being pressed.

Is it air still i n the calipers? or do pistons need pushing bk in or something??

i'm a bit boggled?

Just check that the disc is centralised in the caliper and not offset. This would cause clamping of the pad and not spin freely.

Did you make the mounts yourself ?

no i bought the mounts.

it span clearlly before we started bleeding them. It looks like the pistons are sticking out a little bit- like 1mm. We tried pusing them bk in but they come bk out. Do i need to unscrew the nipples and push pistons bk?

cheers

Is the caliper sitting central over the disc? If the pads are brand new it might take a few miles to get them to ease up but it is normal for some slight rubbing at first - it will probably ease once on the road but check to make sure they don't get too hot. You might try bleeding them again if all else fails.

hi,

yeh the disc is central in the caliper. The other side spins fine but this side u cant even turn. Definetly something wrong. If there was air in the caliper would it do this?

Hmmm it sounds like a seized piston which is unlikely if the caliper is new.

I would undo the bleed nipple and push tyhe pistons right back, then bleed again. It might free it up - certainly worth a try.

I had the same problem.

The piston was sticking out about 1-2 mm and i got it replaced then had no probs.

Must say had to centralise the disc with 1mm washers to make it work in the end.

it is a problem that has risen a couple of times apparently.

you have to space 1 side to make the disc centralise.

hope you get it resolved.

I suppose the next step would be to pop the pistons out and make sure that they are not sticking in the bores - maybe swap them round to eliminate any tolerance issues?
