Using disc break adapter plates
I've been wondering about this. I'm going to use disc brake adapter plates on my drum braked back end. Because I haven't got all the
brake parts together yet, I have some trouble visualising it all but here's the problem I see.
The adapter plates are mounted on the outside of the hub carrier. Now supposing the plates are 8 mm thick, doesn't this mean the mounting points
for the calipers are 8 mm offset to the outside of the car as compared to the original setup? Meaning they will be too close to the discs and not fit
together?
Build manual? What build manual?

I did a similar thing on my old Nissan and basically speaking you will have to insert a spacer to bring either the caliper or disc back in line - in
your case 8mm. However I would imagine it will depend on the dimensions of the caliper you are using.
*edit* Just realised you are converting from a drum setup - in which case I am not sure if my comments apply

When thinking outside the box doesn't work any more, it's time to build a new box

I've always thought that the brake disc adaptor plate went between the bearing carrier and the axle, not outboard of it as in the picture.

The adapter plate only uses three holes to bolt to the bearing carrier, no all four bolts. Therefor if I put it between the bearing carrier and the
upright or axle, there will be a gap between the bearing carrier and upright where the fourth bolt goes trough. That's why I assumed it went on
the outside.
By the way, this doesn't change the basics of the original question. If the plate is put behind the bearing carrier, wouldn't that put the
caliper too far to the inside of the car?

Yes, but then you can use spacers to position the caliper in the right place, the sierra part for mounting disc is included in the bearing housing, so
the mounting face for the caliper is the back edge of the bracket in your picture.

I have just done this conversion and had to mill off 3mm from my callipers to make them lighn up perfectly with the centre of the disks....
Not a difficult job...
