Mountney Steering Boss Quality?
There have been a number of critical comments in the past about the poor quality of some Mountney steering wheel bosses.
I am looking for a boss for my Westfield, which has Mini splines on the column. When I look at websites of companies selling Mini parts Mountney
bosses are the most common.
My question is: do these quality issues apply to the newer M series bosses, which have fixings compatable with 70mm PCD Momo and other European makes,
or just the older 'Classic' bosses with a much larger PCD.
Any comments appreciated.

My problems were with the old-style boss - the notch for the steering lock was badly made.
Other people have had no problems, which suggests that it's a quality control problem, with a huge variation in fit & finish.
I have had no experience with the more modern units.

every one i've seen have been terrible quality. i've checked all the ones we have at work (about 10 at any one time) and the difference in
quality is massive between mountney m range and momo or raid. some of the raid bosses are boxed up in mountney boxes though, since mountney bought
them out.
also, the mountney ones don't include bits like horn contact rings or decent engagement for the steering lock. for the difference in price vs
quality, i'd go straight for a momo boss. don't even consider the mountney one.

gotta admit my mountey one was really crappy, i had to redrill a couple of holes as they didnt evan match up!

I had to have the inner edge of my Mountney boss skimmed to miss the steering lock casting.
Old style boss, I suppose you get what you pay for.

Apparently the bosses are made in Scotland. Im surprised they are poor quality

I just got a mountney boss, it fitted in realy easy and looks good quality. It also had all the correct electrical connections in place, so all I had
to do was join the wires

My mountney boss doesn't have the highest spec finish but I wouldn't say it was poor quality. It is solid, reliable and fitted easily.
I've never had a problem with it. Shiny costs more but that doesn't mean better quality necissarily.

Just like I said earlier - some have no trouble, others a few niggles, and a few find they're totally unusable without major surgery.
Classis QA symptoms.

I bought the old style mountney boss and pants on fitment when turning lock to lock it works loose from colunm had to make spacer to keep it tight

I've got a classic one aswell, and it does the job perfectly. Its not the best looking thing in the world but it is solid and all the holes line
up etc.
I'm happy enough with the value that i'm getting one for the Polo aswell

If you have 'Mini' splines, you havent got to worry about the steering lock issue (Mine is shite too...! ). They might be better than the
Sierra adapters...
Dont just build it.....make it!

If you have 'Mini' splines, you havent got to worry about the steering lock issue (Mine is shite too...! ). They might be better quality
overall than the Sierra adapters...
