Sierra Steering column 'Spring Washer Thingy'
Hi Folks,
What is the function of that spring washer which is a push fit onto the triangular section of shaft?
Is it meant to prevent the nylon bush riding up the shaft. It doesn't seem a lot use to me.
Does Mr SVA need it?

i can only assume it is to prevent the bush riding up the shaft. with use, the bush does shimmy up and out of the outer housing giving a wobbly
column.
mine didn't really seem to do much either so i replaced it with a big copper washer cut out to fit the triangular shaft and a petrol pipe type
clip to stop it all moving. suppose a jubilee would do the same job, but i was worried about it catching the bulkhead.
much more solid now, and no play in the column.

Yes,thats what it is there for,the bush will not stay in position without it,you can replace it with a jubilee clip if you want, this is what I used on
my last car,in place of the spring washer.

Drilled a 1/8" hole on one plane of the triangle, and put a roll rin in mine. Hasn't moved since. Ray

Nice ickly jubilee clip works much better as mentioned. I think the clip works when first used but during the install my clip became a loose fit so it
really didn't do much anymore......
It's probably a Haynes "discard item as a new one will be required anyway" item...

I replaced mine with a large steel washer cut out to fit the triangular shaft and tack welded it at three points to the column.
