Shortening steering rack.???
I am such a blonde numpty...I redesigned the front suspenion on my RH...(threw the sliding pillar in the bin and stuck wishbones on it..)..
Only today when I went to put on the mounts for the steering rack did I realise that its monumentally too long....the ball joints are too far
appart...
So...Where can you buy shortened ones from or is there someone who will shorten mine to the length I want without emptying my bank?
I am pretty sure its a sierra rack..
I feel really stoopid!

mk2 escort ones are a lot closer , youd need arm extensions for it - i believe that rally design can supply you with one and the arms .

According to their websites MNR and MK can both supply shortened racks.
Sure most of the other kit suppliers can provide similar.

Does that mean you have significantly reduced the track on the front i.e. wishbones are significantly shorter then the original sliding pillock arms?

...the track is wider than it was with the sliding pillar inplace...only by an inch or so...
With the sliding pillock suspension I guess it didnt matter where the pivot was for the suspension so much...
I need to get the rack balljoints inline with the wishbone pivot points to get rid of the bump steer that the silly pillock suspension had...
Do you have any photos of a sierra and mk2 escort rack so I can make sure I ID it properly?.....Will the escort rack use the sierra splined steering
collumn?

Shortening A rack
If you have a lathe or know somebody who has and know how to use, it is is quite easy to shorten a rack.
Normally you have to screw cut a thread on the outside and bore some holes in the end.
The casing is much easier as long as you get it aligned. If it is steel sleeve over the outside at the join, with slash cut ends and some rossette
welds.
If it is alloy then I would sleeve and 638 Loctite with some "chicken" rivets!.
Alternatively Titan make some nice custom made racks, but expect to pay about £250.
