I was told the rule of thumb is you allways tighten towards the front which means the offside is right hand thread and the near side left hand thread.

I bet this will run and run but if you do a search it comes up a few times.

Yes i had this exact same discussion last night with a friend!

LH thread should be on nearside (tighten towards front).

Physics lesson:
When wheel is spinning the moment and centripital force is at the outer edge of wheel. On braking this force moves to centre of wheel and to hub. Hub nut mass takes energy and tries to continue spinning thus therefore would undo!

Hi

I was always taught left hand side (nearside) left hand thread, same as HGV wheel nuts which are left hand thread on the left side.

Lefthand side Lefthand thread,
The push in driveshafts are different lengths on the sierra so you cant go wrong?

I am humbled, the short shaft is indeed right handed on the offside and left handed on the nearside.

Just hope me front hubs dont unwind and come off

I was thinking about the front hubs but I was sure the rear is the same. How wrong I am, into the corner she shouts! Baffoon!!

You can shoot me now! AAAARGH:

I have to confess i had my car almost completed when i read a post here that had me banging my head on the workbench

I was sure i was correct but had mixed up the hub assemblies when i stripped cleaned and re bearinged

Thanks everyone,
Unfortunately I can't use the driveshafts to tell me which side they go on as it will have custom shafts to a quaife diff.
I'm only using the hub assembly and the gkn joint, looking at it I can assemble the hubs and drive flanges as they aren't handed and confirm what goes where when I'm a bit closer to the final build

Cheers
David

David,

The left hand thread goes on the nearside.
