pesky ball joints?! **NOW ON WHEELS!***
bloody things!
i've got a ball joint seperator (the fork type you hit with a hammer) but its too narrow to fit round the stud.
I've tried a hub puller and impact wrench. didn't budge.
I've tried hitting it with a hammer.
I've tried WD40 and other oils to that release these things, and hitting it again.
I've tried shouting at it.
I've tried swearing at it.
I didn't expect the last 2 to work, but helped me feel a bit better.
any other ideas? what have you found to work? i'm really annoyed, its the only thing holding me backk from getting the truck standing on its own

One thing that can help is to put the nut back on so it sits just above the thread and then hit with a big hammer. It can help shock the taper loose.

I'm leaving it soaking in oil just now, hopefully will help. i'll have another go after dinner... wanted to push it out on the drive
tonight so i can sweep out the garage

Put the joint under mild tension, just the weight of a moderate crowbar should be enough, get TWO hammers and simultaneously give a good clout from
both sides to momentarily ovalise the taper, up she pops - job done.
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

I have had some success using boiling water poured on the joint - the outer bit expands a little and lets the taper go.

Yep the combination of putting it in tension and clouting it has worked for me too, in the past with the bottom one Ive just just put the roadwheel
back on with the balljoint nut half undone, lowered it down and then given it a clout. This wont work with the top joint though, so need a lever of
some sort as Mark mentioned.

I thought about buying one of the seperators above^ the taped on my joints are VERY wide. from a bedofrd midi van, so was wary i would be in the same
situation that it won't fit round.
the crowbar and hammers sounds interesting, but may involve too many people, and buying a crowbar. a last resprt option maybe
boiling water will be getting tried tonight. thought about heat before, but didn't really want to take a blow torch to it.
should i try to avoid the actuall ball joint and go for the hole, or just pour it over?

Ditto, works almost every time that one! If in doubt hit it with a bigger hammer  Be careful not to break what it is in (i.e. the cast upright!)

Same here but I had to grind out the space between the bottom legs to get enough space but now it fits most things and the legs haven't
broken.

^considering widening my forked one now... bought it and never actually used it anyway. not a huge expense to buy another if i have to...

 hot water and a few gentle taps with a sledge hammer did the trick!
now, where i hammered that brass nut back on and damaged the thread in it... the stud just spins in the the ball joint, so what do i do now?
joking! i did have a problem with my nuts though but got that sorted and now the truck stands on its own! pics tomorrow

one of the guys from one of the racing teams is starting to race next year, so i bought his old bodywork and a few other parts 2nd hand from him, so
the body work i have has been racing, and needs repairing, but thats half the fun
