Is this collapsable??
Hi,
I was told my steering column isn't collapsable, but upon looking at it, it looks to me like a small pin - see badly drawn arrow - is the only
thing stopping the smaller lower tube sliding inside the large upper tube - therefore making it collapsable????
IS my logic flawed ?
Basically I want to get it through SVA, will it pass?

If the upper column doesn't have a collapsible bit then the intermediate shaft just needs to be at an angle so if you crash it moves away
instead of pushing against yourself..
What upper column are you using?

i'm going to have 2 UJs in mine with no collapsable bit.

that looks like escort column.
I bleieve that roll pin hold holds the inner column in place; if you wanted to replace bushes in the coloumn, you would knock that pin out.
The MGB collumn has a inner flattened bar insdie a similar shaped outer tube and the roll pin held the two together and wash meant to break in case of
collision = collapsible = which is what you may be thinking of. I thihk.

Doesn't look collapsible to me - the collapsible bit is usually the triangular section which is able to slide up inside the hollow cylinder
bit.
However you seem to have welded your extension to that which means that it won't slide in the event of an impact.
I wouldn't be happy with it if it was mine.

A collapsable column will often have a concertina section somewhere in its length. It will compress in a frontal impact, rather than push the steering
into your chest
