Front Brakes Advise

Advice on front brakes

Dear All,

I need some advice for the front brakes.
My intention is to do some track day's.

I have been looking around for some possebilitys, but is there somebody that have experience with willwood or other calipers.

Rally Design offers different kits from 247 mm diameter disc with calipers that hase no dust seals to 285 mm disc with calipers that hase anti dust and anti squeal.

I'm convinced that the 247 mm disc and Dynalite caliper gives better pedal feel than the M 16 caliper, but I'm a little warried that after some time the pistons will be sufering from corosion, and squeal at low speed?????

Some advice please

Many thanks

Gunther

got willwoods on mine, just like throwing out 17 anchors at once, they work fine, pads do take a little warming up though before they are 100% effective, 100yds with light pressure on pedal sorts it...

Thanks for response,

Still not sure witch one to use.

I have the ST pedal box with 3/4 (rear)and 5/8 (front) willwood master cilynder.

Options:

1é M16 calipers: heavy and still 100 pounds for recon ones.On the other and they are dust sealed.

2é Willwood: not dust sealed or you have to buy the "Midilite" but then I'm looking at 400 pounds ( 353 - 40 for disc + 30 transport + vat )

3éOutlow M16: Dust sealed ??? can buy them for 350 pounds pads included.

4éBremsport: I thinks they are 350 pounds + transport + VAT.

5éVolvo 240 Girling 4 pot caliber: Dust sealed, heavy but only 80 pouns or so.But fit is not without modifying.

I'still have a lot of questions:

Will the master cylinder fit all of these options ???

No dust seal will this be a real problem after some time.

Impact of the caliper weight on the handling from the car ??

Wat is the impact on pedal feel with all these differant calipers ??

My personal opinion is that the m16 calipers will be fine for road/track day use (with the right pads), the wilwoods are good if you have the money to spend or if you want to loose some unsprung mass on the car. I'm not convinced this will make a noticable difference in handling. I'm using the m16's with spacer plates and capri vented discs. I'm rebuilding the calipers myself, so avoiding the £50+ per caliper recon charge...

I'd stay away from other 4 pot calipers as they'll most likely be as expensive or if off a road car heavier than the m16/wilwoods.

With regards to the master cylinders, it depends on the sizes of the master to slave cylinder (in the caliper) ratio/size as to the pressure that'll be required on the pedal. I'm not sure about this, someone else may be best to advise.

Ned.
